I've spent most of my life around businesses.
I grew up watching my mom run a salon and later built a career working across analytics, operations, technology, strategy, and product management. While the industries and roles changed, I found myself drawn to the same thing over and over again: understanding what's really going on, connecting the dots, and helping people move forward.
Today, through Brightlight, I help business owners and leaders navigate challenges, make informed decisions, and create practical solutions that fit the realities of their business.
Hi! I'm Lauren Mottley
My mom owned a salon for more than 35 years. I spent countless hours at the salon, watched the day-to-day realities of running a business, and eventually helped with everything from painting baseboards to doing the bookkeeping, and, years later, helping sell the business.
I watched my mom solve problems, make difficult decisions, and keep moving forward no matter what was thrown her way. If something broke, needed replacing, or business was slower than expected, she found a way to make it work.
That experience gave me a deep appreciation for what business owners carry every day and continues to shape the way I work with clients today.
The work I do today is informed by more than two decades of experience helping organizations solve problems, improve operations, and execute important initiatives.
My experience includes roles with organizations such as PwC, Constant Contact, and an AI-focused technology company, where I've served as an individual contributor, manager, director, senior director, department leader, and initiative leader.
My career has never followed a straight line.
Over the years, I've worked across analytics, operations, technology, strategy, product management, and marketing. Because many of those roles were cross-functional, I often found myself working between teams, helping people with different priorities and perspectives move toward a common goal.
Whether translating business needs into technical requirements, helping stakeholders align around a project, or connecting strategy to execution, I've spent much of my career helping make sense of complexity.
Looking back, connecting people, ideas, and priorities has been a common thread throughout nearly everything I've done.
The longer I work with businesses, the more convinced I am that understanding the problem is more important than rushing to a solution.
It's easy to jump into action. It's much harder—and often more valuable—to make sure you're solving the right problem in the first place.
I've also learned that progress rarely comes from giant leaps. Starting small, learning quickly, and making thoughtful adjustments along the way often creates more momentum than trying to get everything perfect the first time.
And perhaps most importantly, solutions need to work for the people responsible for maintaining them. If something isn't practical or sustainable, it probably isn't the right solution.
I love understanding how things work, why people think the way they do, and what helps them move forward. Whether I'm helping a business owner navigate a challenge, working through a creative project, or having a conversation with a friend, I'm most energized when I'm learning, creating, and connecting.
I appreciate people who are comfortable being themselves, ask thoughtful questions, and approach life with curiosity. I care deeply about the people in my life and the work I take on, and I believe people do their best work when they feel understood, supported, and free to be themselves.
Outside of work, you'll usually find me surrounded by color, working on something creative, enjoying a masala chai. I'm a firm believer that progress matters more than perfection—even if I still need that reminder myself sometimes.
